CT> Douglas A-1H Skyraider - Very successful aircraft, especially
CT> in the FAC and RESCAP roles.
GD> RESCAP? What's that?
Rescue Combat Air Patrol. The poor fool that sits there and tries
to get shot at while the boy's in the Thunderpigs (SH-3's) try to pluck
a pilot to safety. RESCAP's job is to keep the heads of the enemy down using
guns, bombs, napalm or whatever is handy. I've read at least three
eferences
to the Spads doing that role as well.
GD> That's why it's the era I'm most interested in when it comes to
GD> aircraft. There were so many good looking and interesting
GD> aircraft being flown or tested by airforces all over the world.
Can we say F-7U Cutlass, or the Douglas F-4D Skyray? Look those
two up some day.
GD> been the Golden Age of civil aviation but IMHO the 50s and early
GD> 60s were the Golden Age of military aviation. I think I'll go
I totally agree, and the next time I fire up my simulator, I'm
not going to look at my MiG-15 "Fagot" the same way. Too much fun back then,
no whiz-bang missiles with 150nm ranges to spoil things early! :-)
