Reminds me of Valerie's younger son (from a previous marriage).

Schools used to celebrate Arbour day and kids were giving a fledgling tree
to take home and plant. He ended up with Charlie Brown's twig and brought
it home almost in tears. "Nevermind," said Valerie. "Let's
go plant it!"

Time passes. The moon waxes and wanes. The pages of the calendar are
turned. Seasons come. And seasons go.

Today it's a bloody ginormous tree that (since Valerie has moved homes) we
periodically go and visit to admire the way it has triumphed.
