I've been using them for years in overhead fixtures, and while I've had a
few burn out prematurely, I've had to climb up on something to replace far
fewer of those than I would have with incandescents.  I also use them in
lamps, and I can tell a difference in how much cooler they are compared to
an incandescent.  I was really happy when they started making sizes that
would fit within a normal harp.  Before that, I could only use the circular
ones in larger lamps.
