| subject: | Pauline Neville-Jones views on the WoT |
From: Ad http://www.middle-east-online.com/english/?id=19675 "Dame Pauline Neville-Jones, the former chairman of Britain's Joint Intelligence Committee, told a conference on terrorism in Brussels that the West's record in the fight against terror was "not very good." "I was very much in favour of intervention in Iraq. But that had a very negative impact," she said." "Iraq "has been turned into a training ground for terrorists, not just a recruitment office," Neville-Jones continued. The same thing is happening in Afghanistan with the appearance there of suicide attacks, the former foreign affairs adviser to ex-prime minister John Major said. "We have had successes in counter terrorism, but not in diminishing it," she added. Since the intervention in May 2003 of the US-led coalition "there have been around seven times the number of attacks throughout the world than between September 2001 (9/11) and the same date," she asserted. Most of those attacks have taken place in Iraq, but a quarter of them occurred in Afghanistan, and the rest in Europe and the Middle East, she added. One of the long-term effects of the events in Iraq is that the terrorists, facing increasingly well-equipped troops, are themselves upgrading, she said." Possibly "Bring it on" was a mite stupid.
