CFL bulbs cost a lot more energy to make than stock incandescents.  By the
time you plug them in, you are already behind the game.  It takes a couple
of years' use to recover the manufacturing load.

I was amused, around a decade ago, by the "fragrant" Mary
Archer's attempts to rehabilitate her lying, cheating, fraudulent husband.

She wrote (ghost-wrote) an article for the Sunday Times showing how she'd
saved GBPn a year by insulating her home.

At the time, we had a house built at roughly the same time - early
nineteenth century - around the same size at 2400 sq ft, and almost exactly
the same shape.  Our total annual energy bill was less than the savings she
claimed.

It's another case of "do as I say, not as I do".  IMO it's almost
fatally damaged Gore's credibility.

And our own HRH The Prince of Wales is no better.  Possibly worse.
