GCC normally makes a file called a.out so I guess you overrode that

Normally keep it in the $PATH somewhere and just run it by name

but in this case it's probably easier to do

  ./hello_world.out

Unlike DOS, etc unix doesn'r search the current directory for executables,
if you have one there and it's not in the path you have to specify it.
