A gun-free zone is like having every second stool at a bar be a non-smoking
area. It doesn't work.

If someone wants to kill you, he can use a sniper rifle, shoot you in the
middle of your forehead over a distance of 2.5 kilometers and people around you
will see you collapsing but never hear a shot. No gun in the world protects you
in such a situation.
On the other hand, if someone wants to rape you, that can only happen at short
distance and pepper spray would to the trick.
So what's left is robbery and in that case I'd rather loose the 300 Euros in my
wallet than risking getting shot. Because the perpetrator will point the gun at
you before you can even reach for yours. And if he sees that you are carrying a
gun, they might even think about shooting first and then pulling the wallet out
of your pocket; that way, they don't risk getting shot.
