On 02-07-98, MIKE ANGWIN declared to ROBERT PLETT:
MA>RP>There would be no balanced budget in the first place had it not been fo
MA>RP>the ravaging of the military budget. Social spending has steadily rise
MA>RP>while the military budget has been repeatedly slashed, and it's all bee
MA>RP>done with the complicity and help of a Republican congress.
MA> With the continuing debts being incurred annually by Social
MA>Security and other "off budget" federal programs, the prospect of
MA>actually having a balanced budget, despite the assumption we will
MA>have one 23 months from now IF the ecconomy holds, tobacco compaines
MA>pour billions into the federal government, and, of course, no
MA>unexpectied expenses come up while Congress is not tempted by the
MA>prospect money to be available for spending and go off on yet another
MA>spending frenzy. Clinton alone proposed 24 new spending initiatives
MA>just in his State of the Union speech and many received support from
MA>both sides of the asile.
What I actually had in mind was the prospect of a balanced budget if
nothing whatever were done. All that nonsense Dufus came up with
doesn't even qualify as smoke and mirrors, but instead is pipe dreams
and lies.
