Subject: Re: Internet usage
I may have made a mistatement. Many large corporations have what are
called "intrenets". They handle large amounts of E-mail directed within
their system only. There are E-mail programs designed especially for this
purpose. In these situations, automatic messages acknowledging the receipt
of messages work kind of like certified or registered snail mail. Some
programs also allow you to send an automatic message to those who send you
E-mail while you are away from the office, like when you are on vacation.
These programs can be used on the Internet, but the auto-responder
features can create havock on a mailing list. About a year ago on another
list, someone set up an auto-responding vacation message. For over a week,
hundreds of people were deluged with 50 to 100 messages per day reminding
us that this guy was on vacation. I hope this clears up my meaning.
