I recognize your need, Sue, to avoid getting involved in extensive
disquisition wrt Fido's history, philosophy, etc. Each BBS user should
be able to get it from his own sysop. I've gotten that reply, too.
But complying isn't always possible. Believe it or not, some sysops
appear to have heard of the FidoNet advantages long ago, and got tied in.
(However that's done.) They are not, however, able -- or willing, maybe --
to describe the function.
I find it surprising, frankly, that individual echoes don't keep at
hand a boilerplate document -- *or* at least an address -- providing
standard answers to such questions. Something akin to an FAQ, perhaps.
No doubt you're not about to undertake such an operation -- as a well-worked
volunteer, for one thing. But don't you feel the suggestion might
appropriately be passed to someone?
