GE>Cell phones are NOT really "Free". They cost around $350 - $500 retail
>(though no one pays retail). But virtually all cell phone carriers
>subsidise the cost of the phone so that you can get one without paying
>anything for it, other than making a one or two year commitment for
>cellular service.
Which is one of the reasons the cellular carriers require large
deposits. Stop with this business that you don't pay for it. You
get nothing for nothing.
GE>The only "deception" invloved is when people who see the ads refuse to
>read the fine print, or to listen to the salesman explain how things
>really work.
In a credit and truth in lending or fair trade scenario, there is
a deception when the cellular company and the salesman do not tell the
customer that they are not really getting the phone for free and that
they would be within their legal rights to obtain a phone from anyone
they choose.
