It wasn't that really it was that the US wanted to be the top dog & the
only western power which could challenge it would be if the British Empire
got back on it's feet so US focus was on making sure that British
possesions "gained independance" while the UK itself was
exhausted & frankly France & the French empire was never going to
even vaguely challenge the US so.....if they want Vietnam back....give it
to them & screw the natives...
