| subject: | Re: ATM Stellarain & collimation/cell question |
From: "Bob May" To: "atmlist" Reply-To: "Bob May" All you need behind the mirror for a 3 point cell is a 1/4" aluminum (or steel for a larger mirror) and a few thousandths of an inch to insure that the mirror isn't touching the cell itself. The rest of the mechanism can be on the side of the mirror if so desired to the point where nothing else extends below the back of the mirror. 1/4-20 screws are quite big enough to do the collimation and those can be had with 3/8" or so diameter heads (Allen socket screws or even turned down Fillister head screws) to minimize the required size. I could probably put together a full cell that still fits in a 1" larger diameter tube than the mirror is. If I was able to use a square box instead, there would be all kinds of room to do a orthagonal system with a spring or other holding mechanism to hold it together. Bug me and you may get a quick drawing of how to do the job.
