There are three actual comm links:
Your PC to your modem;
Your modem to the remote modem; and
Remote modem to remote PC.
You're concerned only with the first two.
Each of those links can, and often do, operate at different speeds. The
modem "buffers" the speeds between the two links and uses "flow control" to
manage this.
Therefore, you want to set your port speed (DTE speed, between your modem and
your PC) higher than your maximum connect speed (57,600 or 115,200 for a
33,600 link), you want Autobaud OFF in Telix, and you want to configure both
your modem and Telix for hardware (RTS/CTS) flow control.
The speed the modem connects at (33.6 or 28.8 or even 9600) has no effect on
the comm port speed which is set at 57,600 or 115,200.
