Heh. A friend of mine worked at Interplay when Starfleet Academy was made.
(He was one of the producers on the Starfleet Command games.) The stories
he's told me about William Shatner's acting in that game... whew!
My favorite Star Trek game, and it's probably due to having played it
since, well, the 1980s, is the classic quadrant-and-sector game, where you
go around, search sector by sector, and blow up the Klingon invasion fleet.
Just's just fun. The original EGA Trek was a particularly good version.
Later versions removed the more blatant Trek-isms, but the first version,
with nice renditions of the computer monitor graphics from Mr. Scott's
Guide to the Enterprise, really felt like being in command of the
Enterprise.

For a few thrilling, mad, exultant years I lived and breathed
Sherlock Holmes to the exclusion of all other lives and oxygens. I could
recite huge passages of the text, remember dates, details, names and
incidents as if I had actually been by the Great Detective's side
during each adventure. Which of course, I had, for Watson had taken me
there.
