Good morning, Don. Took a nice ride from Stockton to SF (about 5 hrs) in
Al's 36' Uniflite. Got to navigate and drive about half the time. Just
great weather, and good water conditions. Ended up at Marina Village in
Alameda. Ran alongside a large Chevron oil tanker on the way out. Could
not believe how fast that thing was going, and making almost NO wake!
Took a long time to catch and pass her.
We traveled about 16 knots, and were using his new GPS to compute speed.
His new depth finder went off the deep end, and was reading around 500'
or so. I think it s due to the cavitation of the prop.
Anyway, had a great ride, nice view of the Bay bridge as I drove under
it and turned left at Treasure Isl. Neat run.
Only slight problem was the starboard diesel engine was running HOT. It
got up near 220 deg several times. It would drop to 200 when we slowed
down. The Port engine run the boats hot water and stays about 160-180.
I'm afraid he will cook the s/bd engine if he doesn't find a way to get
the heat down. Lots of pretty boats seen on the way down.
Those CAT express boats with jet props were something. They ran circles
around our boat. Al's going to be down for about 3 months, so we'll go
back down, and spend a night or two with him.
Take care. CYA
