KS=> Aside from the fact that I'm rapidly approaching 'fossil' status KS=> myself, I still haven't managed to figure out just what it means with KS=> respect to communications. KS=> KS=> I use one, (as probably is evident from stuff in my messages), but I KS=> sure would like to know just what the hell it *is*, what it *does*, KS=> and why it's necessary! Well, as a start, I can tell you what it stands for! It's a Fido-Opus-Seadog Serial Interface Layer. I believe that the "fossil" was introduced as a layer between the software and the hardware, so that the same software could run on many different hardware or operating systems without modification. BNU ver 1.70 and XOO ver 1.53 are the fossils of choice for those of us running Binkley on DOS-based PCs. Hope this helps! --- QM v1.30* Origin: ;In memoriam to my friend Avril, died Nov. 3, 1998 (1:163/307.1) SEEN-BY: 396/1 632/0 371 633/260 267 270 284 371 634/397 635/506 728 639/252 SEEN-BY: 670/218 @PATH: 30769/1 163/307 99 12/12 396/1 633/260 635/506 728 633/267 |
