Hey again Carol! That seemed to work so let us try it again to make sure, although I won't quote this time. I think my original thought about some Seattle programmer writing a floppy disk utility and being bought out by Gates and partner was the origination of MSDOS. I also have a real old reference for DOS, which if correct, makes the early form of DOS big endian like VMS. I don't recall if this reference book mentions MS at all so perhaps you are on the right track with some of your thoughts about DOS's origins, but I still think I am right about MS and it's foothold in the PC business. Somewhere in this discussion the truth might be. I never bothered with PC's until the 386 and at that time was tainted with VMS and UNIX-think. I thought DOS was VMS-ish. Never even heard of CPM until much later and have absolutely zero experience with it. - Maurice --- txt2pkt.pl v0.00 Hacking* Origin: Coffin Point - Ladysmith BC, Canada (1:153/401.1) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 5030/786 @PATH: 153/401 307 140/1 106/2000 633/267 |
