No. You only see the ADD/DROP messages when they're addressed to the wrong
name, or when the door/BBS doesn't actually support them. This is a bug in
the reader, the door, or the user. Most likely the reader -- Blue Wave, for
instance, will always misaddress such messages now, due to its Y2K bug.
(Indeed, that's the source of most of the DROP messages I've seen lately.)

If you _see_ a DROP message, then it hasn't worked; so the author hasn't
departed. :-)

... Xerox never comes up with anything original.
