That was California, back when I was wild and crazy and lived down
there.  Yes they did, and they pulled the guns from most Security guards
shortly after that incident, and some others.
The Long Beach PD Police Academy had a 125 hour program to train
Security Guards.  Compared to the 560 hour law enforcement program it
was sadly lacking in weapons training.
