  You are right, it is confusing.  
  In both of the above examples, I'd ask for clarification before placing an 
order for any of the above.
  Price and unit should always be spelled out on a quotation, whether it is 
$3.00 per "each" or "dozen" or "ton."  It avoids confusion like the one 
bove.
  Then again, you can issue a purchase order for $3.00 and ask when you can 
expect your 500 pcs.  Then watch the salesperson try to explain why they 
won't honor a written quotation. [grin]
