Hello Bill, BG> Within reason, but the majority of 14400 modems won't even work with BG> serial ports locked higher than 57600 bps. 28800 modems will, of BG> course. Ah ha, we have been at cross purposes. My fax modem was purchased in the US as a Xmas present, as a 28.8 (V34). When setting it up in Win95 as a Plug and play I was suprised to see that Win95 recognized it a 33.6 V34+. I might add, that the USR manual recommended PNP, so I used it. The only thing I changed was the jumpers to configure it to com4 Irq3 (as the system was already set up to those settings on the 14400 Sportster I was replacing). BG> In your case, The X3 above should actually read X2. Sorry about that. BG> :) BG> (If a 28800 internal, you need to change the above to read AT&F1 as BG> well) I'll try that. Actually, now that I am gleaning some info from that very cryptic maual (thanks to your prompting), I wondered about F1, rather than F. BG> In fact, if you ARE running a V.34 USR, all bets are off, as the BG> command set is quite a bit different. In that case, AT&F1 is all you BG> need for an init string (plus the correct X setting to solve your BG> other problem). BG> Post a dump of your ATI7 screen if you can, and we'll try again. Here it is:- ati7 Configuration Profile... Product type US/Canada Internal Options V32bis,V.FC,V.34+ Fax Options Class 1/Class 2.0 Clock Freq 92.0Mhz Eprom 256k Ram 64k EPROM date 10/13/95 DSP date 10/13/95 EPROM rev 1.1 DSP rev 1.1 OK Atx2 does not recognise the engaged signal, and I have to manually hang up, but atx3 seems to be the correct value?? When I changed my init string to at&f1&x3&w , it works ok but when I shut down and then start up Telix again, and look at ati4, the x value has gone back to x4, which appears to be the default. Seems as though I am doing something wrong. But if necessary, I can live with imputting 'atx2' every time I fire up. Last week I was having serious trouble logging onto the Custom Built BBs. The modem would make a connection ok, then after 10 secs or so, it would drop the call, while Telix was still counting down the remainder of the 60 secs. I know the problem was not with the BBs, as after about 6 drop outs in a row, I picked up my handset immediately after another dropout, and could hear the BBs still squealing, trying to continue. I could however, log onto the SPCUG Mail Exchange BBs no probems. Anyway, after changing my string as noted above, things seemed to be OK (I hope). Do you have an answer as to why it was ok with one BBS, but not another??????????? Many thanks for promptings Bill, I will eventually get there, and hopefully one day, I will be able to help some other poor useless sod, who is in the same boat as I am (was?).
