RG> I have just left a BBS which has a Courier v34+ online and
RG> I got a rate of just "over" 4000 cps on a large zipped file.
AM> I still have my doubts whether this is actually possible.
TL> I think with two v.34+'s and a good connection, it is
TL> possible ... The best I have got with my Avtek V.fc to
TL> another V.fc in brisbane was about 3500cps!!
IS> Your Avtek does among the quickest V.32bis / LAPM
IS> around; I've commented before on your consistent
IS> 1680/1690 CPS out of here, with Janus even, on largish
IS> mail files; and that's still happening, I see.
I think I recall doug getting 1700+ when he first got the modem. Now it's
around 1690 or something I think ...
IS> So, let's say you _could_ get to 1700cps {at} V.32bis on
IS> an excellent line, on large incompressible files;
IS> that's about as good as it gets (assuming ZedZap aka 8k
IS> Zmodem), right? Actually, 1700 is quite achievable using MNP4.
IS> That's 1700 / 1440 = 118%. So 3360 x 118% = 3967 CPS.
IS> 4000 CPS would be 119% at 33600bps, equivalent to
IS> _1714_ CPS at 14400. Um, I'm with Arthur, at least
IS> till we see a matched pair of logs to the contrary :)
Your estimate is only 33 off 4000 :) Not much difference, and a few people
say they have witnessed it between two 33.6's :) But does it really make
much diff if you get 3967 or 4000 :)
