Close? No, it was moronic. $6 mil a year (average) is the kind of money that 
a moron pays for a player as limited as McIlvaine. He never showed any 
defensive skills except shot blocking and Seattle let Johnson go and signed 
McIlvaine. Johnson was mad at Karl for keeping out during the Finals and 
management reacted badly by deciding to let him leave. They thought that 
they'd replace a *problem* in Johnson with a *good guy* in McIlvaine. The 
only problem is that Johnson gave them everything even when he was mad at 
Karl while McIlvaine's signing caused Kemp to go into a funk. A $15 mil 
contract for Johnson would have put them on course for a rematch with the 
Bulls.
