LJ> Just today, after I got home, I realized the difference in the new
LJ> setup. Where the old setup had the sends of the sidechain insert cables
LJ> normalled back to the returns, the new setup doesn't. In fact, the new
LJ> setup doesn't even have the send patch points above the returns -
LJ> they're next to each other.
LJ> I'm not going to be able to test this until Monday, so I'd like your
LJ> opinions and notes from experience. Have I found the cause of my
LJ> problem? Do I need to normal the sidechain sends back into the returns,
LJ> like the inserts on my 1604-VLZ?
Yes, or it would seem so to me anyway.
LJ> If so, why is this a problem at all? Isn't there some way to build a
LJ> circuit smart enough to know that there is no physical connection
LJ> between the send and return, and to therefore bypass that part of the
LJ> circuit?
Certainly that would be possible, but not in the price range of the
Alesis; that thing is dirt cheap, and as a result, more folks are using
compression that could not previously afford to. Personally, I don't
care for the Alesis; it is less versatile than other compressors out
there, but you certainly can't beat the price, and they do seem to be
reliable. Take care.
... Very funny Scotty...Now beam down my pants!
