By new partition, do you mean that you moved it to a partition which had a 
different drive letter?  If so, then all of your file locations expected by 
Word are messed up.  Reset them to the new drive letter, using 
tools\options\file locations.
I suspect your add-in for your scanner is located in your
winword\startup directory.
