Yep: the V-2 may not have been cost-effective, but it was unstoppable, and
its descendants are still so close to unstoppable as makes no strategic
difference.

I'm speaking of a major-power scenario, not the scenario carefully
hand-crafted to justify our current BMD spending: there's this rogue state
with an undeterrable psycho dictator, see, and he has a handful of ICBMs
because there's an international Evil Tech Network, but the Evil Tech
Network for some reason hasn't told him about cheap countermeasures to BMD,
and he's too psycho to use a rental van, so...
