Oh, I never got that idea. I thought they were just getting desperate. In
the times I had this problem, they would try the litterbox, move on to the
plants, on to the clothes, back to the litterbox, etc. on and on. I don't
think they "blame" anything for their condition, just know that they are not
peeing, and feeling very uncomfortable.
In any case, I never had a problem with a cat subsequently avoiding the
litter box as a result of an infection.
