Yes, that was an amazing round -- I was cheering for them the whole way. I
was really happy to hear Melanie Smith urging him on as well
-- very refreshing after hearing all the pro-USA coverage from the
other venues. I don't watch the Olympics to just see 'our guys' win
-- I watch to see great performances, period. And it doesn't matter
whether the performance in question is the fellow who won the marathon
(amazing finish -- all three medallists were in the stadium at the
same time, and the margin of victory was around three seconds) or the fellow
who finished dead last, hours after the winner.
Did you see the closing ceremonies, by the way? Michael Matz was the US
flagbearer and he looked so proud and happy I thought he was about to bust. I
thought it was rather nasty when some people said how convenient it was that
he had a lousy first round so he could leave the show jumping early to get to
the closing ceremonies. :(
Good luck coping with the humidity -- I know it can be draining if you aren't
used to it. Be sure to stay hydrated!
