If you want more info I uploaded a file on Tuesday called RM> ROADSTER.ZIP. It's got a review and some information in it. I haven't RM> really had any problems with it, just enable V.42 error correction and RM> you'll be okay. Let me know about what you decide on if you get time. Thanks for the reply. I was all set to buy the Roadster, then I saw the reviews in May APC, which made it look bad. They tested several v34's for throughput, ability to cope with bad lines etc. They only tested with 2 of the SAME modem at a time though. A good modem is good with every other modem, which the Roadster may be, but they never tested that. When I went to to buy it, I was already having doubts because of the reviews. Then I saw what a tiny little thing it was. Probably means nothing, but I thought I'd be paying extra to get it that small, so I bought an Avtek Flashmodem. It's still Australian (from Netcomm??!!), and got the "best" review, and is much cheaper. One thing I wanted, apart from reliability, was ease in setting up. ie, when I install programs, I want to find my modem in the list, not stuff about with init strings. I'm not doing too well so far. Anyway, I've managed to set it up ok, even with MPCUG's Slipkit, which doesn't have a list of modems to choose from. (Had to edit the script to change the init string - the supplied one just says "error"). I'm successfully getting 3300cps transfers from the BBS via Cooee, so I'm happy. ---* Origin: Melbourne PC User Group +61-3-9699-6788 (3:632/309) SEEN-BY: 50/99 620/243 621/525 624/300 632/0 107 271 304 309 325 326 329 348 SEEN-BY: 632/360 366 371 506 525 530 535 552 998 999 1000 633/371 634/396 397 SEEN-BY: 635/301 402 502 503 506 541 544 637/103 639/252 711/409 413 430 808 SEEN-BY: 711/809 932 934 712/515 713/888 714/906 800/1 @PATH: 632/309 998 635/503 50/99 711/808 934 |
