Certainly. In fact, in recent years I have been
using the increase in psychiatric problems to
try and get people to understand that the
society is seriuously problematic and that you
cannot blame it on genes when the numbers are
rising dramatically. For example; throughout
most of the twnetieth century, the mean
incidence of those seeking some degree of
psychiatric assistance was around 10% (7% males
14% female). Since that demented freak thatcher
got her clammy claws on power and the brutality
of the capitalists has increased dramatically,
that figure has steadily risen until now it is
around 20% and some psychiatrists have been
predicting a figure of 25% in the near future.

That the inhuman stresses of the capitalist
system was the cause of psychiatric breakdown
was a centre piece for the anti-psychiatric
movement throughout much of the sixties and
seventies. I think this is being substantiated
by the present trend.
