DC> On 13 Mar 05 14:10:07, Raymond Yates got back to Danny Ceppa DC> -> Re: Intentional walks DC>>> But, I think my favorite character is the guy that plays the DC>>> boat's electrician! CS>>> Radioman actually. DC>> out getting the boat into workable condition. And, I died DC>> every time Kelsey would ask him to port the feed to a DC>> different system. "Bring it up on the overhead..." RY>> Recently I took a tour of a WW2-era submarine. (USS Clamagore) RY>> currently on display in Charleston Harbor. DC> Are you small enough to get in? Yes, thanks, though the interior hatches are shin-bruisers.. RY>> According to the tour, and the service manuals I have since found RY>> on the net, I would highly suspect that radioman and electrician RY>> are two vastly different occupations. DC> But, unless I mixed up two characters in the movie, in the movie DC> they were one and the same. And, no, I'm not doubting you or Carol DC> about their different tasks in real life. Well, you know how movies go.. thay make it up as they need to if they don't know.. RY>> So my semieducated guess would be that while there are points RY>> where the two converge, most often they jobs differ. DC> Have you seen the movie, though? I do think that their separate DC> duties were merged with poetic (OK, humorous) license! I saw it a long time ago and know of what you're talking about.. you may want to peruse this, however... http://maritime.org/fleetsub/chap6.htm#6A this does not apply to radio... RY>> Particularly as the subs operated on battery power or electricity RY>> generated from the diesels (of that era) and that's fr mor RY>> voltage than is requires to keep the radio tubes warm... DC> For a more accurate portrayal, can I recommend _Das Boot_? Yeah, that would work.. DC> If you don't already have it, make sure you get the DVD version. The DC> English dubbing is done quite well. However, take the extra time and DC> re-watch it in German with the English sub-titles. As soon as I break down and buy a dvd player, I'll add this film to my "want" list.. and thanks ! I can think of several late 50's early 60's movies that would also do well, for this but titles escape me at the moment.. I did, however, thouroughly enjoy the boat-tour.. ---* Origin: Ray's Rocket Shop - Out to Launch (1:3613/48) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 5030/786 @PATH: 3613/48 1275 123/500 106/2000 633/267 |
