Were the older regiments based locally or elsewhere ? Were they open to
'outsiders' ?

Since we are starting to really consolidate bases ( National Guard and
Reserve ) I'm concerned about the relationship between the people and the
military. With lots of National Guard / reserve armories people see Guard /
reserve frequently in small towns. They think of them as 'theirs' and are
use to seeing them ( at least in smaller towns). Wonder how this will
change over the next 5-10 years .
