ML>TIVO is the original Digitial Video Recorder... it is what became of the
ML>original *nix with TV Tuner card and large HD with software that could recor
ML>output from the TV Tuner to the HD for later viewing... TIVO was spun off as
ML>$$$ venture which provided the box all configured and ready to go...

ML>somewhere around here, i have the posted plans for the original device befor
ML>TVIO was created as a company... i doubt that the software is available toda
ML>like it was back then but it may very well be...

ML>the main additional desirable features offered were program listings like TV
ML>Guide(1) that carried and recognized a special encoded show numbering(2) so
ML>that one could tell the unit to record a show by its number and not worry ab
ML>having to set the time for it to be recorded(3)... since the service has to
ML>for access to the program listings and the show numbers, it didn't make sens
ML>to just give that away to millions so it was part of the service sold at a
ML>subscription rate similar to satellite and cable...

ML>another good thing with TIVO was that the recording service worked with inpu
ML>from off-air antenna, satellite and cable connections... one only needed to
ML>have the tuner unit that had the connections they desired to use... but, as
ML>with all things, that was then... this is now :/

teh project is on hold for a while because of a Back Operation schedules
Mar 17. I have a TiVo 4 unit, previous model to current production that
I picked up at 40% off. I have extablisged an Intenret connection for it
using soem power line adapters. I still need to get a 4 channel record
M-Card tuner from my cable provider and subscribe to the TiVo
Programing system.
they sell a "Lifetime" subscription at $450 but it is only the Lifetime
of the TiVo Box not yours. I wil be going on a Prepay 1 year conteact
until I see it the system works for me.
My alternate plan is ot go ot a Mini Computer with a 4 channel cable
ready card or external box..
