The earth doesn't care. Life in some form will continue until the sun explodes.

However, it is quite likely that human life requires a wide range of animal
and plant life. I suppose you don't expect you will be in the select group
chosen to live in the Star Trek space ships, where magic machines will
generate food and recreation without animal and plant input.

Therefore, you need to care about animal and plant life.

No one knows what the effects of the current experiment (Industrial
Revolution) will be. The only thing you can say with confidence is that
everything is exactly as it should be for the current conditions. If those
conditions change much, a new stable state will be found. That stable state
may not include a lot of things we care about.
