-=>While in the White Hart, Helen Fleischer explained to Fred Runk that<=-
HF> Well, come the wee hours when I'm tucked up in my hotel room ready to
HF> read myself to sleep, I had the awful realization that I grabbed
HF> Pamela Dean's _The Hidden Land_ off my shelf. I had accidentally
HF> stacked it on top of _The Secret Country_, even though it is the sequel
HF> to that book and I have not yet read the first one. AAARRRGH!
I just started reading her. I finished THE DUBIOUS HILLS several months
ago. TAM-LIN is sitting there patiently, awaiting my call. I haven't
started the series yet--can't find the first one anywhere. I did like THE
DUBIOUS HILLS; I don't care for fantasy that much because of the cardboard
characters and the overworked Arthurian atmosphere, but this one was
definitely different.
HF> One dealer wouldn't even try, another pointed me to a vintage Poul
HF> Anderson and raved about it. All I can say is I'm glad it only cost
HF> $1.25 and I did need to get to sleep quickly that night. I struggled
HF> through page after page of made-up words that added nothing to the
HF> story and a lot of description that flowed like firetrucks over
HF> speedbumps, only to get to a boy-meets-alien-girl scene that really did
HF> the trick. I was out cold. Zzzzz.
Don't remember that one.
