What they are saying is that the future is set. Use the example they gave
of going back in time and meeting your parents when they were teenagers.
Before you even do that you have already done it, just ask your parents.
That's why they are saying you can't go back in time and change things,
because back when your parents were teenagers, you already showed up and
did whatever you were going to do, and at that point in time your being
born, finding a time machine, and going back to that exact moment in time
was already a done deal. Your parent's couldn't change the future any more
than you can change the past.
