V10.0C sounds like Watcom?  If so you can freely download Watcom 11 from
http://www.openwatcom.org/ .

Cygwin is worth a look if you don't have the time/inclination to install
Linux but still want to learn how to develop in a UNIX environment.  In
most cases it provides enough of a compatibility layer on top of Windows
for people (and many UNIX configure scripts and makefiles) to think you're
running UNIX natively.  There is even a free X Windows server available.
