     I use a Netcomm Automodem E11f with varying degrees of
     success.

     I downloaded the above-mentioned file (Autoref.Exe) -
     thank you for taking the trouble to do this.

     Unfortunately, this file is for Word 6 and contains all
     the formatting codes for this program, making it a bit
     hard to read.

     Would it be possible for you to print this out to a plain
     ASCII file (assuming that you have access to MS Word)
     and upload it again - perhaps calling it AUTOREF.ASC
     or something similar.
