subject: Question

Hello All!
I recently downloaded a midi file of the Star Trek next generation
theme which was obviously written for a top-of-the-line sound card.
My card is a 16 bit Trust Sound Expert (sound blaster pro clone).
The above file gives the expression that the card is gasping for
breath, but having said that, I get varying results, depending on
which software I use. eg: Midisoft Recording Session; Midi
Orchestrator; Comprack and Windows media player all give the worst
results, ie: weird clicking noises etc. The best results are achieved
when I use either: Personal Composer or Cubasis Lite.
Can one of you experts out there please explain to a novice like me,
why I get this variation.
Another unrelated question: Is there anyway of extracting some of
those hidden music files that come with games such as Railroad
Tycoon and Transport Tycoon so that they can be played without loading
the game? I don't even know if they are *.mid or *.mod, but some of
them sound quite good.
Bye For Now, and Thanks
Derek Brice
