Maybe the 3rd position is the neck and bridge pickups. Maybe even all three? 
I don't have a guitar handy (in the house. Within a mile constitutes "handy" 
for me), so I can't check for myself at the moment. Let me know what you 
find, cause I've been wondering about that myself...
