CH> >But the "public" phone system is the property of private
CH> >enterprise. It's no different from any other private business that
CH> >society has developed a level of dependence on.
CH> No, Sir. It is an industry that exclusively utilizes a public
CH> resource(s),...the public telephone system and the air ways.
I will say this only one more time. The phone system is the property of
private enterprise -- not the government. The telephone system is
available for the public to use, but it is the property of the various
phone companies.
CH> Your attitude is interesting. You think that you can just dictate what
CH> everyone else should do without regard to what their interests and
CH> rights might be.
Not at all. I am not dictating what you or anyone should do. I am merely
repeating the simple truth about the way things are. Things are not
true because I say they are true. I say they are true because they are.
CH> Hmmmmmmm......I think you really must be a Bell
CH> Atlantic associate.
I've made no secret of the fact that I work for a company that is an
agent of Bell Atlantic NYNEX Mobile.
CH> GE>The don't. They require security deposits from people who are bad
redi
CH> >risks. But they never turn anyone down for service.
CH> Their definition of "bad credit risks" is hardly logical or fair. Nor
CH> is it consistent. What they consider "bad" in most cases is what other
CH> types of businesses consider "good".
In two years of running Bell Atlantic NYNEX Mobile credit reports, I
have never had them turn anyone down who would have qualified for credit
from other sources. I spent a year and a half with a company that sold
cell phones and also issued it's own credit card -- which BANM would
accept for security deposits. Every time someone failed to pass BANM
credit muster, I'd advise them to apply for one of our company cards
that they could use for their security deposit. None of them ever
qualified.
CH> The gas company or the electric company ask for deposits; but they are
CH> based on legitimate factors and are usually fair. Many landline phone
CH> companies only require a $50.00 deposit for service.
Landline phone companies don't also provide a subsidised phone. And
landline service isn't nearly as much a luxury as cellular phone
service.
CH> You can sign up
CH> for Bell Atlantic Cellular service wherein you are promising to pay a
CH> bill of less than $50.00 a month and they want a $1000.00 or more
CH> deposit.
I've only seen one credit request come back with a $1000 deposit. Of the
hundreds of credit requests I've run, the majority were approved, and of
those that required a deposit, the majority were for only $200. And I
got BANM to waive at least half of the ones that the computer tagged at
$200 by getting a human to take a closer look.
I don't know where you came up with your ideas about BANM credit
policies. But it's flat out wrong.
