I tend to agree with you, Ben.  In most ways Republicans are liberal in
spending and in the growth of govt. but in other ways, they have still
been kidnapped by religious fundamentalists.  If we had Republicans
like Ike, back in the 50s, even I might be able to vote Republican.
:-)  I voted for Ronald Reagan, first time out.  But even Reagan was
not as interested in religous fundies.  As to Democrats, I still think
they are the party with the umbrellas. :-)  But I agree with you that
they too have lost their way a bit.
Personally, I'd like to see a third party that really DID represent the
middle class, a party that would restrict legal immigration to those
who would contribute to our society, and enforce control over illegal
immigration, a party that would prevent outsourcing of our nation's
jobs and find alternate sources of less expensive energy, a party that
would protect our nation's resources for future generations, without
placing the spotted owl before people.  Hmmmmm  Do you want to run,
.....or shall I?  :-)
