| subject: | Dynalink modems |
Nev, at 15:34 on May 31 1996, you wrote to All... NM> Does anyone have experience with Dynalink modems? Yep, but not with the new V.34+ internals. NM> Dynalink V.34+ 33,600 Internal FaxModem $275. That's a damn good price, actually. NM> 1. are they worth buying or just too good to be true? Some people (who don't know any better) will tell you that the Dynalinks are garbage, but apart from some service tone detect problems with their earlier models (and which I understand have since been fixed anyway), they're actually rather good modems, and have proved to be very reliable. NM> 2. are 33.6k modems worth buying anyway because of the telephone system we NM> have in Australia. My own lines aren't all that great either, yet I still regularly manage consistent 33k6bps connects with other V.34+ Couriers... ---------------------------------------------------------- : 02 Jun 06:36:15 BINK Dialing 3868-1597 # 02 Jun 06:36:34 BINK Connect 33600/Arq/V34/Lapm/V42Bis [ ... ] # 02 Jun 06:37:22 BINK Protocol Lapm Srej 244/15 # 02 Jun 06:37:22 BINK Speed 33600/33600 # 02 Jun 06:37:22 BINK Last Call 00:00:41 # 02 Jun 06:37:22 BINK Disconnect Reason Disc Received ---------------------------------------------------------- NM> That is assuming of course that someone can be found to connect with. Check the nodelist for boards flying both the V34 and H16 flags (which makes them V.34+ Couriers). There are a hell of a lot of them about these days. NM> I currently use a Maestro 14.4 but it will cost around $250 to convert it NM> to 28.8k. This is of course just $25 less than a brand new Dynalink 33.6 NM> as mentioned above. This is the reason for asking. Given that you'll likely be able to flog your Maestro for $120 or so, you'll only be around $155 out of pocket if you buy the Dynalink, which has to be great value for a 33600bps modem. Go for it.
