While that's true, the activation data is compiled from the registry.  
Check your wpa.dbl file and you'll see that it's updated each time you 
startup XP.

BTW, Microsoft Office application activations are quite different in 
that it allows for installing on two machines - one being a desktop and 
the other a mobile computer.
