That's what's makes biology so incredibly, fascinatingly baroque (or maybe
rococo is the word -- curlicues on the curlicues). In that ecosystem,
everybody and his clone gets energy from reducing sulfides. But if there's
a slight edge to be gained by scooping up a few photons as well, sooner or
later evolution finds it.
