subject: [--- MAN Output ---]

-> I'll be writing the software on a Linux box but it will ultimately
-> run
-> on a SUN (Solaris) platform. However, you've given me a lot of "stuf
-> that I'll have to check out. BTW, is there a method of printing the
-> "man" pages? I'm an old-fashioned type who sometime prefers to have
-> hard-copy at hand (especially when the machine is turned off).

     Funny you should ask.... Do a "MAN MAN". This is UNIX! MAN only
outputs to the terminal screen in its "default" setting. What's your
pleasure? Then, set your switches. You can MAN to a daisy-wheel. You
can MAN to a Dot Matrix. You can MAN to a lino-type. You can MAN to
NROFF. You can MAN to a photo-typesetter with TROFF. You can MAN to
LaTex. You can MAN to postscript/ghostscript printers. You can MAN to
TIFF. You can MAN to HPCL printers. Do a "MAN PRINTCAP" and just see
all of the output devices you can MAN to!

     If you don't like the way that MAN does its output, you can make
your own with PR, LPR, NROFF, CPP, TR, make up a printer language with
LEX, print onto anything that has an I/O port.... Just string fifty or
so software tools together in a command pipeline and invent your own
output command.... UNIX lets you do anything!
