| subject: | The modem you just bought |
G'day Peter, Good choice of modem. I was originally only gonna get a Lightspeed Lightfax with voice capabilities, but one day dad and I saw the Netcomm Roadster..... For the bargain price of $310!! And it was brand new with box, etc. As for the Flashmodem, yes it did score highest in that magazine, but in another I read the Roadster kicked ass, scoring 3353cps average on a 600K ZIP file. Yeah, I use Ymodem-g protocol for most downloads, get up to average 3370cps (!!) on a ZIP file, downloading from Melbpc when lines are good. Cooee gave me a lot of problems and I just gave up and decided to use Telix for DOS (Windows is a real problem for me!) You said you get 3300cps, which BBS are you calling and what protocol do you use to download with? How much was the Flashmodem? Avteks are American, I think (no matter though, cool modem, was also thinking about that one) Depending on who you call, and where they are my CPS rate differs from 2800 (really bad day) to 3300 on a ZIP file at best with Zmodem. Ymodem-g seems to beef up CPS rates by about 80.... One error and you have to start all over again, unless of course you have Zmodem crash recovery on. And isn't it amazing how when you buy a good modem the US Robotics Couriers drop to $600 and the Sportsters to $389! Damn!
