OK periodically you have a joke candidate who most of the time doesn't even
get on the ballot in all the states.

Other than that yes pre-selected. What are all those primaries about where
the contenders for each party jockey to be the chosen one? Does every voter
in the US vote in these primaries?

Oh & that's if you've not got a 1st term sitting president coz then
he's automatically got one of the 2 places.
