If it needs aligned, it is usually best to take it to a repair
service. In many cases, if the laser needs aligned, it will usually
skip randomly on any track.
It has been my experience that many players, especially if they see
heavy use, will exhibit the same symptoms if the laser is binding on the
guide(s). If you are comfortable taking the cover off, often the guide
rail(s) will be fairly exposed. Place a minute amount of machine oil on
the rail(s) close to the carriage, put the cover back on, program the
player to play track 1 and the last track on the cd, set it to repeat.
Often this will cure the problem.
